About Etienne Uwingabire

Etienne Uwingabire, is a public health advocate, serves as the Executive Director of the Rwanda Diabetes Association (RDA), where his leadership has driven transformative efforts in diabetes prevention, management, and patient support across Rwanda. Leveraging his extensive expertise in non-communicable diseases, he spearheads nationwide initiatives including community outreach, early screening programs, World Diabetes Day campaigns, youth education camps, and digital health innovations that empower individuals particularly those with type 1 diabetes with essential self-management skills, insulin access, and greater independence in monitoring and controlling their condition. Under his guidance, the RDA has forged stronger partnerships with government entities, international organizations such as World Diabetes Foundation,Diabetes Empowerment hub, Life for a child introducing advanced technologies like AI-powered diabetic retinopathy screening to address complications in resource-limited settings and prevent vision loss. His unwavering commitment to affordable care, policy advocacy, community mobilization, and patient empowerment has significantly elevated diabetes awareness, improved clinical outcomes, reduced barriers to treatment, and aligned RDA's work with national strategies to combat NCDs, ultimately enhancing long-term health and quality of life for thousands of Rwandans living with diabetes.
