Crispin Gishoma

About Crispin Gishoma

Crispin Gishoma is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Rwanda Diabetes Association, where he provides strategic leadership, shapes organizational policy, and contributes to steering committees for major programs and research initiatives aimed at strengthening diabetes advocacy and care in Rwanda.

A seasoned leader in diabetes and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), Crispin previously served as Director and Chief Executive of the Rwanda Diabetes Association. In this role, he oversaw clinical services, staff, projects, and financial management; led surveys to inform public policy and awareness campaigns; mobilized resources through grant writing; and established strong partnerships with government institutions, NGOs, and the private sector at both national and international levels.

He is the founder and former Chair of the Rwanda Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (RNCDA), where he played a pivotal role in positioning the alliance as Rwanda’s leading civil society voice for NCD prevention and care. Regionally, Crispin served on the Board of the East Africa Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (EANCDA), contributing to coordination, governance, and strategic decision-making on NCDs across East Africa.

Crispin is also a Leadership and Good Governance Trainer with the International Diabetes Federation (African Region), where he has trained diabetes association leaders in advocacy, communication, leadership development, and fundraising. Additionally, he contributed to **The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Commission on obesity and diabetes in Sub-Saharan Africa, supporting the development of evidence-based recommendations to improve prevention, diagnosis, and care.

Through visionary leadership, partnership building, grant writing, research-informed advocacy, and capacity strengthening, Crispin Gishoma continues to drive sustainable impact for people living with diabetes and other NCDs at local, national, and regional levels.
