Rwanda Diabetes Association (RDA) is organizing its seventh youth diabetes summer camp this July 2019. In collaboration with its partners, RDA has been running these camps every year for the past six years.
Children and adolescents living with type 1 diabetes need close attention and require multiple interventions throughout the day. These include but no limited to blood glucose monitoring, insulin injections and adjustments, meal planning and physical activities. A good diabetes education is vital for these activities to help these youth to prevent acute and chronic diabetes complications and live a healthy and productive life, not merely surviving.
These summer camps offer a unique and exciting opportunity for youth living with diabetes to learn and improve their self-management skills, they provide a safe environment where these youth are enabled to learn to independently self-manage their diabetes as they get precious and constructive feedback and guidance from peers and dedicated health professionals.
The seventh diabetes summer camp will take place from twentieth up to twenty-sixtieth (20-26 July) in Gakoni cell, Gastibo District in the Eastern province. In this 5 days period, RDA will host 70 young diabetics (boys and girls) aged between 14-27 years, from across the country.
“THE FUTURE IS MINE“, will be the theme for this year diabetes summer camp. And like the previous camp, the seventh diabetes summer camp will have a set of educational activities and recreational activities.
Together let us change the face of diabetes and build a brighter future for our youth living with type 1 diabetes.
